Real
People
Most of us are quick to
judge a person as being either good or bad, smart or dumb,
kind or mean. The real truth is that people are much
more complex than our attempts to categorize them.
So good people do bad
things, smart people do dumb things, and even evil people do
great things. This is true of people today and it was
true of people in the Bible.
Abraham was a man who
believed God. Abraham was also a man who doubted God.
Joseph was a man who acted with integrity. Joseph was
also a man who acted with arrogance. Moses was a great
man who led his people with courage to overcome incredible
odds. He was also a murderer.
We invite you to join
us this Sunday as we begin a study of Real People.
Don't expect a polished presentation of heroes who can do no
wrong. The Bible is painfully accurate in presenting
the good, the bad, and the ugly of the key people in Bible
times.
So join us for a study
of real people. As we study the lives of others, you
might recognize someone you know . . . like yourself.
See you Sunday!
Pastor Jack
Marslender
We have reserved a theater at Harkins on Sunday
evening, September 28, at 6:00 pm, to see the movie Fireproof. Tickets are
only $7 each and can be
reserved via email.
You can find out more about the movie at
www.fireproofthemovie.com.
Only 14% of the Southern Baptist Convention churches nationwide met
what the International Mission Board calls the "Cartersville
Challenge" last year. Cartersville, Georgia, is where
Lottie Moon made her commitment to international missions, and the
annual mission offering of the IMB was named after her.
Churches needed to give at least $25 per person to meet this
challenge. Our church was one of those 14% of churches; we
gave $34.07 to the Lottie Moon offering per person. We are
pleased to be one of the leading churches in giving to mission causes
to advance the cause of Christ. We look forward to
meeting--and exceeding--this challenge in 2008!

We invite
all adults to become involved in
Bible Study groups. We hear awesome biblical
sermons
on
Sunday mornings, but there are many more
ways to enhance and learn about our
Savior
Jesus Christ. Adult Bible Studies are a place
where in a smaller group of people you will study
God's Word, have fellowship with others, and make
lasting relationships.
In small
groups you make friends who will pray for us, laugh with
us, and cry with us during the seasons of our lives. We
encourage you to find a
group that will meet your needs. We have so many
different possibilities that we are sure there is one
you will fit with. For more information about classes
or groups contact
Phil
Johnson.
And speaking of small groups,
our FSBCA campus offers excellent Sunday evening
classes. Our next series begins on Sunday evening,
September 14. Here are the excellent choices we
are offering this fall:
Bible
101 –
This
class will familiarize
students with the Bible
so they can understand
it more thoroughly on
their own. It will
cover the "story" of the
Bible, the arrangement,
a history
of the Bible, the
background on how we got
the Bible, and
introductions to the
various sections and
books of the Bible.
Those who complete the
class will have much
more confidence in their
ability to read and
understand the Bible for
themselves. Taught
by Pastor Jack
Marslender.
"Pickin'
and Praisin" –
This
class will focus on
learning the basics of
guitar to worship our
Lord and Savior. It's
based on the scripture
"All the musicians were
trained and skilled in
music for the Lord." (1
Chronicles 25:7) The
class will be a time for
interaction and
instruction to learn to
play music on the
guitar. We will cover
various topics relating
to music and we will
also have a devotional
and testimony
time. Led by
Roger Garner. Bring
your guitar!
Fearless Leadership:
Joshua
– This is
a men’s Bible Study
course on the life of
Joshua. The Men of
Purpose Series focuses
on men in the Bible who
are poignant examples of
Godly masculinity. Each
of these leaders faced
trials, frustration and
failure, yet was
inspired by God to
achieve great goals.
Led by Dave Kelley.
Women’s Bible Study
– Sunday nights
have become a great
evening of growth,
fellowship, and Bible
Study for our women.
This quarter is no
exception as we begin
another Bible Study,
Beth Moore's "Stepping
Up: A Journey Through
the Psalms of the
Ascent." We are
excited about this Bible
Study and even more
about getting to know
one another, praying for
each other, and enjoying
the opportunity to
connect in authentic
ways. Led by Mary
Kaye Wonner.
As always during the
Discipleship sessions we
have excellent courses
for our youth, children,
and preschool. For more
information contact Phil
Johnson 623-932-2723.
Living
Proof & Ministry Fair

They will worship with us (and sing a couple of songs) at our 8:30 and 11:00 am services and then
provide a mini-concert on Sunday evening at 6:00 pm.
Following the concert in the
evening (in our Ministry Activity Center), there will be a
Ministry Fair, designed to introduce you to our many
ministries. Browse the tables, sample the food, and
enjoy the fellowship!
This newsletter is designed to keep you up to date on
the ministries of
First Southern Baptist
Church and Estrella Falls
Baptist Church.
It is prepared by the staff of FSBCA. You can find
contact
information here.
